Why your cashback didn’t track — and how to fix it
Untracked cashback is the most common frustration with portals — and almost always avoidable once you know what breaks the trail.
How tracking works (and why it’s fragile)
When you click from a cashback portal to a retailer, the portal drops a tracking cookie. If that cookie is the last affiliate cookie present when you check out, the sale is credited to the portal and you get paid. Anything that overwrites or blocks that cookie between the click and the purchase breaks the chain — and no cookie means no cashback.
The usual culprits
- Ad / tracker blockers (and strict private modes) block the very cookie that records your click.
- Rejecting cookies on the retailer’s consent banner can stop tracking too — accept them for that purchase.
- Other tabs and links — opening a voucher-code site, a price-comparison link or even another ad after you click can overwrite the cookie with a different affiliate’s.
- Voucher-code pop-up extensions that inject their own affiliate link at checkout are a classic last-click thief.
- Using a code that wasn’t listed by the portal — many retailers void cashback on unauthorised codes.
- Excluded purchases — sale items, gift cards, and (at some retailers) paying by gift card are common exclusions.
- Switching device mid-purchase, or buying in the retailer’s app after clicking on the web.
How to shop so it tracks
- Start at the portal, click straight through, and complete the purchase in that same session.
- Pause ad/tracker blockers and accept cookies for the click.
- Don’t open other deal tabs or coupon pop-ups in between.
- Only use voucher codes the portal itself lists.
- Empty your basket and rebuild it after clicking through, if the retailer carried over an old session.
Pending vs confirmed — don’t panic too early
Tracked cashback first shows as pending, often within hours but sometimes days. It only confirms once the retailer’s return window closes — frequently several weeks, occasionally a few months. A balance that hasn’t confirmed yet isn’t lost; it’s just waiting.
If it genuinely didn’t track
All the major portals have a missing cashback claim process — keep your order confirmation and the date/time, and file a claim with the retailer’s order number. Start here:
- TopCashback — Missing Cashback / claim form in your account.
- Quidco — report a missing transaction under your activity.
- Rakuten — contact support with your order details.
Claims aren’t always honoured (especially where an exclusion applied), but for a genuine tracking failure they often are.
Where DealStacker fits
DealStacker picks the best cashback rate for what you’re buying and folds it into the wider stack — and because some retailers void cashback on gift-card orders, it compares both routes and keeps whichever genuinely wins. More on the portals in the cashback sites guide. Search a product to see the best route for your purchase.
How we make money: DealStacker is free. When you click through to a retailer or cashback partner and buy, we may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra and never changes which deal or portal we rank as best for you.
