How to never pay full price: the checklist

The 7-step checklist

1. Confirm the price is actually good. Check the price against its recent history before you do anything — a “sale” price that’s higher than last month isn’t a deal. (DealStacker shows price history on search results.)
2. Find a working voucher code. Search the retailer’s own offers page, plus our UK voucher codes hub. Apply the code first — it’s usually a percentage off the headline price.
3. Buy a discounted gift card to pay with. If the retailer sells e-gift cards below face value, buy exactly what you’ll spend and pay with it for a near-guaranteed few percent off. See our gift card guide.
4. Click through a cashback site. Start your purchase by clicking the retailer from a cashback portal so the sale is tracked. Our cashback sites guide compares the big three.
5. Apply loyalty / member pricing. Scan your loyalty card for member prices, and use any eligibility discount you hold (student or membership scheme) if it applies.
6. Pay with a rewarding card. If you have a debit or credit card that earns cashback or points, use it for the final payment — it’s a small extra layer on top, at no cost if you clear the balance.
7. Keep the confirmation. Screenshot the order and cashback click so you can chase anything that doesn’t track. See why cashback didn’t track.

A quick worked example

Say a £100 item. A 10% code takes it to £90. You pay with a gift card bought at 5% off, so it really costs you £85.50. Cashback at 4% on the £90 tracked total returns ~£3.60 later. Net cost: about £81.90 — roughly 18% off, on an item that wasn’t even on a special offer. (Figures are illustrative; real rates vary.)

The mistakes that cost people money

• Getting the order wrong — some layers cancel each other if applied in the wrong sequence. See the order guide.

• Over-buying gift cards — only buy what you’ll actually spend; leftover balances erode the saving.
• Chasing a tiny code and missing a big price drop — the base price matters most, which is why step 1 comes first.
